Alopecia means loss of hair from any part of the body for any reason.
There are 3 main types of alopecia
- Alopecia Areata (loss of hair in patches)
- Alopecia Totalis (complete loss of hair on the scalp)
- Alopecia Universalis (complete loss of hair on entire body)
Here we are discussing the most common variety of alopecia i.e. Alopecia Areata. Alopecia Areata is a loss of hair in circular or oval patch from the scalp or from other hairy areas such as eyebrows, beard etc.
Alopecia Areata is an autoimmune disorder which develops when the immune system attacks the hair follicles resulting in hair loss.
The condition can affect anyone regardless of age and gender, though most cases occur before the age of 30.
It often develops suddenly over the course of just few days.
Hereditary & genetics play a significant role in Alopecia Areata, so it runs in families.
Common Triggering factors are:
- Stress plays an important role in most of the cases.
- Nutritional deficiencies.
- Post acute illness eg after typhoid, jaundice etc.
- Poor protein intake.
- Thyroid disorder
- Harmonal causes.
Role of Homoeopathy in Alopecia Areata
Homoeopathy plays an important role in the treatment of Alopecia Areata by stopping the increase in size of bald spot and further growth of hair.
